Hurricane Sandy certainly brought in a big breeze, which also brings a lot of Vata energy. The erratic nature of Vata can sometimes leave us feeling anxious, dizzy or a little bit afraid. This foot scrub is great to calm the mind and body and bring us back to earth.
When my sister was in the Peace Corps in Moldova she created a mini book called “Cultivating Well-Being.” She wanted to leave a little something behind so all the people in the village could feel better from the inside out. One of my favorite parts of the book is the simply indulgent foot scrub.
2 Tbsp Salt ( Sea Salt works best, but any salt will do the job.)
1 Tbsp Baking Soda
1 Tsp Olive Oil
A few drops of essential oils, crushed dried lavender, rose petals, ginger or sage.
For my blend I added 8 drops of Lavender (calming), 5 drops of Bergamot (uplifting), and some fresh crushed lavender. Some suggested oils are chamomile, eucalyptus, geranium, fennel and rose.
Mix the dry ingredients together. Then add the olive oil and mix with your fingers to assure it is distributed evenly. You’re aiming for a crumbly mixture here. Add the essential oils and dried ingredients and mix well.
Soak your feet in warm water (you don’t want to shock your body with water that is too hot) for five minutes. Then massage each foot for a generous amount of time, paying close attention to the heels, cuticles, and callouses. It is best to put on some warm soaks after to seal in the nourishment.
If you want to play retreat, play some soft relaxing music, have a warm cup of tea, and dim the lights. Indulge in the inner beauty my friends.
